Music and More Coming Up at the Arena

Summer is wrapping up with a huge parade of shows marching out through the end of August. Catch one of these huge events and make it memorable.

Staples CenterThe mega-popular singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran will be heading to the Center for a three-day leg of his world tour. He’ll be supporting the January release of his album, “÷,” which includes songs like “Castle on the Hill” and “Shape of You.” You can see him and opening act James Blunt on August 10-12 at 7:30 p.m. each night.

Korean pop culture, also called “hallyu,” will descend on L.A. with KCON. This convention will include K-pop music, TV dramas, fashion, beauty, food, and much more. There will be workshops, panels, exhibits, booths, and merchandise along with chances to meet your favorite Korean stars.

Plus, huge K-pop acts like Cosmic Girls, Seventeen, Heize, Astro, and more will perform. It’s all happening on August 19-20 at 7:30 p.m.

Mega Summer Concert

This mega-concert will feature an impressive line-up of artists from rap and R&B. The line-up will include Fat Joe, Arcangel, De la Ghetto, Bad Bunny, J. Alvarez, and Bryant Myers. See the show on August 26.

D.C. Universe: The Exhibit

The D.C. world of comics, including books and movies, is on display, and it’s a main stop on a studio tour. See costumes, props, original comic books, and more from films starring Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and the Suicide Squad.

One of the draws of a studio is getting to check out Batman’s various Batmobiles from films starring the superhero. From the ‘80s and ‘90s films to the most recent Dark Knight trilogy, you’ll see an evolution of really cool cars, motorbikes, and even a snowmobile.

Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts

Another exciting exhibit is props and costumes on display from the Harry Potter films and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Of special note is Voldemort’s evolution of costumes from his young days as Tom Riddle to his reign of terror as the Dark Lord.

The fun begins on August 13 and lasts through the 19th. Each day will feature different entertainment, workshops, panels, happy hours, after parties, and more.

Comedy Festival Highlights

This event is jam-packed over seven days. Here are the shows and highlights you should keep on your radar.

Burbank Comedy FestivalOn August 13, check out “The Foundations of Comedy Intensive,” a workshop where you’ll learn all about how to improv and craft jokes. You’ll even learn about microphone technique and how to vibe with your audience. Other workshops will include “Marketing & Promoting Yourself & Breaking into the College Market” and “Social Media for Comedians.”

Panels will bring you insider discussions about the industry. Catch panels from club owners, casting directors, agents, and managers. In particular, watch out for the Casting Director Panel on August 15.

You can check out a variety of talent during the festival. Look to Underground Showcases to watch brave souls take on an open mic night, or watch live recordings of comedy podcasts. Plus, you can attend after parties each night of the festival at 11 p.m. at various venues, including Flappers Comedy Club Main Room, Barneys Beanery, and Fantasia Billiards.

September 30 – Never Been Kissed will take you back to the ‘90s, and Ramonda Hammer will perform.

July 8 – Come to watch Boogie Nights and see Fire Tiger light up the stage.

August 5 – 8 Mile will be showing and DJ Bakdraft will return with great music.

L.A. Food Trucks to Look for at Outdoor Movies

A variety of different food trucks will be showing up to each event. You’ll get a chance to taste something new at every movie.
