Expect hits such as “Sweet Love”, “Giving You the Best That I Got” and “Body and Soul” to ring out to the rafters as Southland gets a chance to bid farewell to this true musical icon!

Six Flags Holiday in the ParkThe rare sight of flurries falling from the sky is not the only treat that Holiday in the Park brings. Now in its sixth year, more than 2 million lights and seven different themed areas will light up the park to get revelers in the spirit of the season. This also includes the park bringing back the fan-favorite “Taste of the Holidays” food festival for two weeks (from December 14 – 29) during the extended run. The hours of operation vary between three different durations, the longest being 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturdays and the week of the Christmas holiday.

This year, the Holiday in the Park themed areas will include:

Merry Lane – Twinkling lights that are synchronized to holiday music and 30-foot walk-through ornaments await, but the true pièce de résistance for many guests is roasting marshmallows over an open fire. (Sorry, but due to the warm LA weather, Jack Frost nipping at your nose is not included).

Santa’s Cottage – What holiday-themed event would be complete without the Man in the Red Suit? Along with Mrs. Claus and the elves, enjoy making crafts and visiting Santa at his home up until December 24!

Gleampunk District: A Steampunk Holiday Experience – The largest themed area in the park, you will be transported back to the 19th century with all of the sights and sounds of the Industrial Revolution, all illuminated by thousands of lights. The center of this area is the Gearworks Theater, whose façade will be streaming a video adventure showcasing the happenings inside of the Steampunk Candy and Toy Factory. Don’t forget to get your selfie in the one-of-a-kind steampunk sleigh!

Rockin’ Universe – This is where the DC UNIVERSE comes to life, featuring three light shows that are each synchronized to contemporary holiday music. Being one of the largest light shows along the entire West Coast, each five-minute event includes tens of thousands of lights, with each viewing just as captivating as the last.

With all of the illumination that abounds, to get the most out of all the Holiday in the Park festivities, guests are advised to stay later to see the light shows and displays in all of their glory! If you are coming from away or just wish to have a full night out on the town, book a room with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel! Our comfortable accommodations and upscale amenities are conveniently located just a short distance away, making us a perfect home-away-from-home for all of your Six Flags Magic Mountain adventures!

Celebrate the Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2019

Enjoy some merry movie magic for the entire month of December when the fun turns toward the holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood.

There may be no place like home for the holidays, but Universal Studios Hollywood is making a case to serve as runner-up! Beginning on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28 and running daily through Sunday, December 29, this beloved Hollywood landmark decks its halls and CityWalk streets for the holiday season. During the Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood, the park transforms many of its famous attractions to cater to the upcoming winter holidays. All of the holiday cheer and merry joy is included with the price of admission and gives guests a chance to see some of their favorite places at the park in a different light. Two of the most popular Christmas-fied attractions are returning again in 2019!

Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™

Holidays at Universal Studios HollywoodAs soon as you begin your stroll through Hogsmeade™, and take in the festive décor, holiday food, and seasonal merchandise (that you may of course purchase to start checking off names on your gift lists), you’ll know that the most wonderful time of the year has come to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! What screams winter weather more than hot Butterbeer? How about having a mug while viewing the amazing light show, The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle? The show is all-new this year, but its predecessors have never failed to get visitors in the spirit of the season. Tip: Don’t forget to check out the Frog Choir’s musical performances!

You would be a mean one if your visit to the park didn’t include a stop at Universal Plaza to say hello to The Grinch and his beloved canine companion, Max! He might grumble, but he’s always ready to make your selfies extra Grinchy. Along with many other residents from Whoville, these classic characters roam the area and make the Plaza feel very much like their fictitious town. At the center is The Grinchmas Tree, which is more than 55 feet in height and a sight to behold both day and night. Yet as soon as the sun sets, the nightly tree lighting brings not only music and illumination but a little bit of snow! Yes, snow… in Los Angeles!!

There are many more surprises in store as the park continues to put the finishing touches on this year’s celebration. If you are coming to the area to make some merry movie magic memories, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel is a quick five-mile drive from Universal Studios Hollywood. Booking your stay with us ensures you will have a convenient and comfortable place to rest after a long day at the park! We hope to have the honor of celebrating a bit of the holiday season with you!

It Don’t Mean a Thing, If It Ain’t The US Open Swing Dance Championships!

The oldest swing dancing competition in the world returns to the Burbank Convention Center this November.

The best swing dancers are ready to compete for the title of US Open Swing Dance Champion! There are several different divisions of swing that will be competing during this four-day event at the Burbank Convention Center. In fact, there will be over 36 competitions that will make up the US Open Swing Dance Championships in 2019, taking place from Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1. Many of the competing dancers have come to consider The Open as the most challenging and exciting swing competition in the world. Being the oldest competition of its kind, now in its 37th year, old friends will be reunited and new relationships will be formed.

US Open Swing Dance ChampionshipsFor those who don’t know the different between “Shag” and “Lindy”, rest assured that The Open still holds a lot of magic for all in attendance. You don’t have to be one of the hundreds of competing dancers to enjoy the event. While the ultimate achievement is to win a Championship title and the now famous “Opus” trophy, just being there and seeing all of the dance routines is a memorable event for any fan! You will feel every bit of sincerity in the event’s motto of “Share the Dream, Share the Passion”, as the dancing community always loves to expand its fandom with new dancers and non-dancers alike.

On top of the over $50,000 in cash and prizes that are awarded throughout the competitions, The World Swing Dance Council will be announcing their annual inductees into the Hall of Fame. Not to be outdone, The Open itself will be honoring the newest US Open supporter to earn the Walk of Legends award, their own version of a HOF!

If you are planning on celebrating Thanksgiving Weekend in Burbank for The Open, we hope you will consider making the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel your home-away-from-home for the holiday. Not only will we keep the spirit of the holiday in your weekend with comfortable accommodations, upscale amenities, and world-class dining options, we are the official host hotel for The Open. With the Hollywood Burbank Airport conveniently located adjacent to our hotel, there will be no travel woes for those flying into the area for the event. Better yet, we are offering a special group rate to our US Open Swing Dance attendees. Book your room today and we’ll see you on the dance floor!
