Find Yourself and Lose Yourself with Dance at the Hollywood Connection Convention

Education over competition will be on full display from the dancing feet at the upcoming Hollywood Connection Convention.

For many, without dance – what’s the point? If you are one of those who always find yourself drawn to the dance floor, you may be happy to discover that our Marriott Burbank Convention Center hosts a variety of renowned dance conventions throughout the calendar year. While they all spotlight everything from Salsa to Swing, many of these events focus more on the competition of dance than the actual education. This all changed when Kimberly Lyon and Bill Bohl founded the Hollywood Connection Convention with the mission of bringing the passion of dance back to convention classes. Their style fosters the belief that you should practice like you’ve never won and performed like you’ve never lost. Take risks and get rewarded, but not in the cut-throat way that many other dance conventions promote.

Hollywood Connection ConventionThis year the Burbank stop of the Hollywood Connection Dance Convention and Competition takes place at our Burbank Convention Center on Friday, February 14 through Sunday, February 16, 2020. With a mantra of – “No Ego! No Drama! Just Dance! How it should be!” – you know that they take the approach that every dancer matters. Bringing out the best in you is their goal with competition serving as a way to push you to your own greatness, not tear you down for your perceived failings. Dance with your heart and you will succeed in their variety of classes taught by Julliard alumni. You must register for your desired discipline, but fear not – you are never a number with your instructors. Even those who don’t choose to take on the Audition 101 course, giving you a real-world experience of trying to make it as a professional dancer, you will be treated as part of this amazing world of dance. They offer two nights of competition on both Friday and Saturday, with four age divisions for competition.

If this has made you feel like dancing and you plan on attending this year’s Hollywood Connection Convention, be sure to book your stay with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Not only are we adjacent to the Hollywood Burbank Airport for those flying in for the event, but we are also the host hotel! If you hurry and book your room now, as a bonus to all of the attendees of the event, we are offering a special Hollywood Connection 2020 room rate. Don’t wait as spots are filling up!

Life is better when you dance and we hope to see you this February!

Your Guide to This Year’s Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game

The countdown is on to America’s New Year Celebration - Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game!

Since 1890, America’s New Year Celebration has turned the eyes of our entire country on Pasadena for a day of festivities. Blending two traditional iconic events of American culture – the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game – the Tournament of Roses is still going strong and looking forward to their marquee events on January 1, 2020. While a few details have yet to be determined, such as which top teams from the Pac-12 and Big Ten will be playing in “The Granddaddy of Them All”, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel has put together a quick guide of the essentials for anyone thinking of coming to the area for the event!

Tournament of Roses Parade

Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl GameWith up to 1 million people descending upon Pasadena on January 1 for these celebrated events, it is best to plan ahead. The 131st Rose Parade begins on New Year’s Day at 8:00 AM, but if you wish to attend, your morning will start much earlier! There are a variety of viewing options for the parade, but your best bet may be to purchase a grandstand ticket ahead of time to ensure you have a spot. If you wish to be adventurous, you may be able to find a prime viewing spot along the road… but that means celebrating your New Year’s Eve on the street with the hundreds to thousands of others who have a similar goal – getting that perfect spot to see the floats!

Traveling 5 ½ miles down Colorado Boulevard, the theme for 2020 is “The Power of Hope”, with all of the floats celebrating “the influence of optimism and hope”. Also, instead of one Grand Marshal this year, the parade will have three - Rita Moreno, Gina Torres, and Laurie Hernandez! This terrific trio was chosen by the Tournament for achieving excellence in their fields while always epitomizing respect and inspiring others to dream big!

Rose Bowl Game

Since 1947, the Rose Bowl Game has been a sellout attraction. Taking place at the lovingly deemed “America’s Stadium”, the Rose Bowl Stadium, two of the top teams from the Pac-12 and Big Tem will take to the field at 1:00 PM for the 106th edition of this legendary tradition. Because the final results of this college football season are still undecided, we cannot name the two powerhouse teams that will be taking the field. Yet the game is more than just who raises the Leishman Trophy in the end, as the main reason so many attend is being able to witness one of the oldest sporting traditions in America for themselves.

So, get ready for this historic celebration! Enjoy an exciting day at Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game, then plan to come back and relax in style at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Take advantage of not only our upscale amenities and the comfort of our modernly-appointed accommodations but our convenient location, adjacent to the Hollywood Burbank Airport for those flying in for the event.

There’s A Show For Everyone at The Staples Center This December!

Staples Center

Los Angeles is a city of many nicknames, as it is the kind of place that had something for every person to enjoy. From food, shopping, and of course entertainment, La-La Land has it all! Anita Baker | December 20, 2019 (8:00 PM)

Purple and Gold will be on the court, but The King will not be there for the proceedings. The ‘round ball’ that is being played at the Staples Center during the 2019 Air Force Reserve Basketball Hall of Fame Classic will feature a double bill of NCAA action. First up, the San Diego State Aztecs take on the Utah Utes, leading into the hometown favorite USC Trojans trying to tame the Tigers from LSU. Tip-off for the first game will be at 3:30 PM with the second match-up of the doubleheader slated for 6:00 PM (times are subject to change).

Gabriel Iglesias | December 27, 2019 (8:00 PM)

Time for some fun with “Fluffy”! Having a comedic style that continues to garner attention and fans worldwide, with material that puts a spotlight on him rather trying to take people down, this stop on Gabriel Iglesias’s Beyond The Fluffy World Tour is a show that the whole family can attend… and leave after some side-splitting laughter! Being one of the most active touring comedians around, he knows how to play to an audience and make each and every show a little bit different. It Don’t Mean a Thing, If It Ain’t The US Open Swing Dance Championships!

The oldest swing dancing competition in the world returns to the Burbank Convention Center this November.

The best swing dancers are ready to compete for the title of US Open Swing Dance Champion! There are several different divisions of swing that will be competing during this four-day event at the Burbank Convention Center. In fact, there will be over 36 competitions that will make up the US Open Swing Dance Championships in 2019, taking place from Thursday, November 28 through Sunday, December 1. Many of the competing dancers have come to consider The Open as the most challenging and exciting swing competition in the world. Being the oldest competition of its kind, now in its 37th year, old friends will be reunited and new relationships will be formed.

US Open Swing Dance ChampionshipsFor those who don’t know the different between “Shag” and “Lindy”, rest assured that The Open still holds a lot of magic for all in attendance. You don’t have to be one of the hundreds of competing dancers to enjoy the event. While the ultimate achievement is to win a Championship title and the now famous “Opus” trophy, just being there and seeing all of the dance routines is a memorable event for any fan! You will feel every bit of sincerity in the event’s motto of “Share the Dream, Share the Passion”, as the dancing community always loves to expand its fandom with new dancers and non-dancers alike.

On top of the over $50,000 in cash and prizes that are awarded throughout the competitions, The World Swing Dance Council will be announcing their annual inductees into the Hall of Fame. Not to be outdone, The Open itself will be honoring the newest US Open supporter to earn the Walk of Legends award, their own version of a HOF!

If you are planning on celebrating Thanksgiving Weekend in Burbank for The Open, we hope you will consider making the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel your home-away-from-home for the holiday. Not only will we keep the spirit of the holiday in your weekend with comfortable accommodations, upscale amenities, and world-class dining options, we are the official host hotel for The Open. With the Hollywood Burbank Airport conveniently located adjacent to our hotel, there will be no travel woes for those flying into the area for the event. Better yet, we are offering a special group rate to our US Open Swing Dance attendees. Book your room today and we’ll see you on the dance floor!

For Artists, By Artists… The CTN Animation eXpo Returns for Its 11th Year!

Painting with a broad brush but with a focus on the artists, the only expo dedicated to animation talent in the US returns to the Burbank Convention Center in November.

The CTN Animation eXpo is the only dedicated event of its kind in the US that focuses on talent in animation. Now in its 11th year and attended by more than 10,000 professionals with 340 exhibitors, the Creative Talent Network (CTN) is working on making 2019 a banner year for the eXpo (CTNX2019) with an even bigger and better event. CTN is compromised of a large community of local and international professionals and their annual eXpo is their biggest program of giving back to the artistic community. Another way that they will be giving back this year is by donating a portion of the proceeds of the event to Exceptional Minds. Exceptional Minds is a professional training academy for individuals on the autism spectrum who are pursuing their dream of having careers in animation.

CTN Animation eXpoMaybe taking some inspiration from this philanthropic endeavor, the theme for CTNX2019 is “Transformations”. Unlike previous eXpos, this year’s event is four full days, from Thursday, November 21 through Sunday, November 24. Other new additions include Master Class Workshops, an expanded Career Camp, more networking opportunities, and even After Hours events. Yet after 11 years, it is clear that some things do not need to be changed as at the heart of the event is a spirit of fun and celebration for animation and its creators. These returning facets of the eXpo that always draw the attention of attendees are the live demonstrations, networking receptions, panel discussions, personal consultations, and many other career-seeking opportunities including the aforementioned “Camp”.

Our Burbank Convention Center has had the honor of hosting this prestigious event throughout its formative years and we always look forward to celebrating our city’s Animation Week in style. As host, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel is proud to be the preferred choice of accommodation for many attendees of the eXpo.  Whether local or flying in for the eXpo through the official airport of CTN, the Hollywood Burbank Airport, we are offering a special group rate for attendees. Don’t wait and book your stay today! See you in November!

Take a Bite Out of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals Official Convention

Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of the hit television show “The Vampire Diaries”, the two-day event is sure to “fang”-tastic!

The final stop on The Vampire Diaries & The Originals Official Convention tour brings the blood-red carpet to Burbank for a weekend of “fang”-tastic fun on Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10! Celebrating the 10th Anniversary of “The Vampire Diaries” television series, fans of both this beloved teen vampire drama and its successful spin-off “The Originals” can engage with the stars and creators who made the undead magic come alive on screen.

The Vampire Diaries and The Originals Official ConventionOver the course of two days, there will be a variety of different activities and attractions to peruse. From celebrity panels and Q&A sessions to interactive trivia games, cosplay contests, and auctions, each day will be jam-packed with opportunities to celebrate your love for the Salvatore brothers with fellow superfans.

And yes… both Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) and Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) will be on hand to celebrate the 10 years of their eternal brotherly bond. They aren’t the only Mystic Falls residents that will be descending on the Burbank Convention Center for the event. The star of “The Originals” Klaus (Joseph Morgan) would never want either brother to take all of the spotlight. And other beloved characters such as Alaric (Matthew Davis), Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), and Adrian (Micah Parker also serving as “Host” for both days) will be on hand to ring in 10 years of TVD on TV!

Based on the popular book series of the same name by L.J. Smith, the television series ran for eight seasons on The CW. Yet even though the finale was over two years ago, the fans’ love is just as undying as the supernatural characters on the screen. There are a variety of ticket packages available so you can personalize your experience to fit your level of TVD love!

Yet no matter your level of fandom, be sure to plan ahead and book a room with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel for the convention. Not only are we adjacent to the Hollywood Burbank Airport for those flying in for the event, our Burbank Convention Center is the venue for the entire weekend! As host, we are offering a special group rate for attendees, but the deadline is fast approaching. See you in November!
