Find Yourself and Lose Yourself with Dance at the Hollywood Connection Convention

Education over competition will be on full display from the dancing feet at the upcoming Hollywood Connection Convention.

For many, without dance – what’s the point? If you are one of those who always find yourself drawn to the dance floor, you may be happy to discover that our Marriott Burbank Convention Center hosts a variety of renowned dance conventions throughout the calendar year. While they all spotlight everything from Salsa to Swing, many of these events focus more on the competition of dance than the actual education. This all changed when Kimberly Lyon and Bill Bohl founded the Hollywood Connection Convention with the mission of bringing the passion of dance back to convention classes. Their style fosters the belief that you should practice like you’ve never won and performed like you’ve never lost. Take risks and get rewarded, but not in the cut-throat way that many other dance conventions promote.

Hollywood Connection ConventionThis year the Burbank stop of the Hollywood Connection Dance Convention and Competition takes place at our Burbank Convention Center on Friday, February 14 through Sunday, February 16, 2020. With a mantra of – “No Ego! No Drama! Just Dance! How it should be!” – you know that they take the approach that every dancer matters. Bringing out the best in you is their goal with competition serving as a way to push you to your own greatness, not tear you down for your perceived failings. Dance with your heart and you will succeed in their variety of classes taught by Julliard alumni. You must register for your desired discipline, but fear not – you are never a number with your instructors. Even those who don’t choose to take on the Audition 101 course, giving you a real-world experience of trying to make it as a professional dancer, you will be treated as part of this amazing world of dance. They offer two nights of competition on both Friday and Saturday, with four age divisions for competition.

If this has made you feel like dancing and you plan on attending this year’s Hollywood Connection Convention, be sure to book your stay with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Not only are we adjacent to the Hollywood Burbank Airport for those flying in for the event, but we are also the host hotel! If you hurry and book your room now, as a bonus to all of the attendees of the event, we are offering a special Hollywood Connection 2020 room rate. Don’t wait as spots are filling up!

Life is better when you dance and we hope to see you this February!

Discover the Magical History of the TCL Chinese Theatre

A trip to the movies takes on a whole different meaning when you visit the TCL Chinese Theatre!

It isn’t hard to believe that Hollywood is home to many of the entire world’s top cinematic icons. Yet there may be no greater example of historic movie magic than the TCL Chinese Theatre. Since it opened its doors on May 18, 1927 (yes, 1927!!), the theater has been a touchstone for the movie industry that continues to evolve for new generations to enjoy. From behind-the-scenes tours to red carpet events, here are the top 3 reasons you should consider taking a trip to the past while keeping your eyes on the future at this landmark on Hollywood Boulevard:

The Largest IMAX Auditorium in the World!

One of the newer innovations to the theatre was the construction of the biggest IMAX auditorium, the only one of its kind across the entire globe. Debuting with a 3D showing of The Wizard of Oz in 2013, the screen has its own curtain, keeping with the historic design and traditions of the theatre’s past.

The TCL Chinese Theatre Tour

TCL Chinese TheatreThis behind-the-scenes walking tour runs daily and takes guests through the Forecourt of the Stars and the nearly 200 handprints, footprints, and autographs that it houses. Your guide will divulge many fun facts about the celebrities that have played a role in making the former Grauman’s Chinese Theatre the icon it is today. We will give you one away for free – the most popular handprints throughout the years… Marilyn Monroe! You can tell because the handprints are darker in hue from all of the patrons who have placed their own inside. For the rest, you will have to take the tour for yourself!

Hollywood Red Carpet Events

From premieres to special imprint ceremonies, you can get a little more star-power from your visit by planning ahead and scheduling your visit during one of these celebrated events. Premiere tickets are given away in a lottery a few weeks before the showing, so be sure to stay on top of the most recent releases and their opening dates. Imprint ceremonies are rarer events but are truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunities. When they come around, and if you are lucky enough to be in the area, RUN, don’t walk to find out the details.

Of course, you could just consider stopping in to see a show. While the architecture and ambiance will have you thinking of the Golden Era of Hollywood, the TCL Chinese Theatre shows all of the newest releases. To make it a true night out on the town, end your trip to see the stars on their boulevard with a stay with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Unwind and relax after your own personal trip through the magic of the movies in one of our spacious, modernly-appointed guest rooms, located less than 8 miles away from the Theatre.

The Warner Bros. Studio Tour is Getting in the Holiday Spirit!

From Gotham City to Stars Hollow, the Warner Bros. Studio Tour will take you on a trip through the magic of the movies with a holiday-inspired twist.

Taking a backlot studio tour is always high on the list of things to do when visiting the Burbank area. For all fans of the motion pictures, from the causal to the most diehard cinephiles, there may be no tour that greater encapsulates the magic of the movie industry than the Warner Bros. Studio Tour. This immersive look at the behind-the-scenes action behind one of the top working studios in Hollywood is always a unique experience, with rotating exhibits and productions being filmed making it 2 hours well spent any time of the year. Yet for the holiday season the legendary superheroes in the DC Universe: The Exhibit will be joined by a few new exhibits and a returning holiday favorite. Here are our favorites this December:

Warner Bros. Studio TourEnter the Batcave – Batmobile Collection

Always a favorite on the tour, the Batcave features the authentic automobiles that have been seen throughout the entire cinematic history of the Caped Crusader, starting with the Chevrolet Impala inspired Batmobile from Batman (1989) all the way through the most recent – and largest – military-inspired entry from Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016).

The Big Bang Theory

One of the most beloved comedies of the 21st Century has taken its final bows. For a long time on this tour, visitors had a chance to catch a glimpse of the actors filming scenes on the variety of sets that were on the active section of the lot. Now, these iconic sets from “Apartment 4A” (complete with Sheldon’s spot on the couch) to the “Caltech Physics Department Cafeteria” where so many of the gang’s plans were formulated are part of the tour. Bazinga!

Gilmore Girls Holiday

While these experiences will be sticking around as part of the permanent tour, the magic of the holiday season has signaled the return of a fan-favorite special event. The Gilmore Girls Holiday Experience lets guests return to Stars Hollow for a little of merry magic, complete with a holiday-themed lunch of Lorelai’s favorites, a chance to capture a selfie at the Stars Hollow sign, and new for this year, a chance to take a peek inside Luke’s Diner! This special add-on to the standard studio tour will be running from December 21, 2019, through January 5, 2020.

Are you looking forward to finding a little bit of the holidays throughout all of your travels in the Burbank area? If so, look no further than the modernly-appointed, spacious rooms and suites that await you at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Illuminate Your Holiday Cheer at LA Zoo Lights This Year!

The Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens is turning up the lights extra bright in celebration of the winter holiday season!

With the holidays right around the corner, LA Zoo Lights has made its luminescent return for 2019! This year, the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens has added additional features to the program, including the world’s largest illuminated pop-up book, new glowing animal creations, and so much more. This nighttime activity is a favorite among locals and visitors of Southern California alike and is the perfect time to visit one of the most beloved California zoos. With gates opening at 6:00PM, the program runs through January 5, 2020. Need more convincing – here are the top three reasons you should take a walk on the wild side this winter at the LA Zoo:

LA Zoo LightsWildlife-inspired Light Displays

The title of the program should say it all – the main attraction of LA Zoo Lights is… THE LIGHTS! The whole zoo is not open for the program, but the lights do cover enough ground that it takes over an hour to experience it all. Interspersed with festive décor and holiday music, you will see more light animals than ever before, providing many opportunities to capture a perfect selfie or family photo to cherish for years to come.

Live Animal Sightings

As this is a nighttime event, many of the animals that you would regularly visit at the LA Zoo are off-exhibit and in their night quarters. Yet for this special program, visitors get a chance to see a few of the residents in a different light – namely the living amphibians, invertebrates, and reptiles that reside in their festively-decorated lair. And if you are really lucky – the Asian elephants may decide to come outside for a little festive fun instead of calling it a night in their barn.

Meet “The Man in the Red Suit”

On selected dates through the Christmas holiday, Santa Claus will be on hand to truly make the festivities merry and bright. No matter if you are naughty or nice, Saint Nick will be available for photos while he gets ready to take his big ride on Christmas Eve.

If you are planning a getaway during the holidays, be sure to book your stay at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. With the home-away-from-home comfort of our modernly-appointed rooms and convenient Burbank location (approximately 7 miles away from the Los Angeles Zoo), we are the ideal hotel to light up your holiday season in style!

Your Guide to This Year’s Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game

The countdown is on to America’s New Year Celebration - Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game!

Since 1890, America’s New Year Celebration has turned the eyes of our entire country on Pasadena for a day of festivities. Blending two traditional iconic events of American culture – the Rose Parade and the Rose Bowl Game – the Tournament of Roses is still going strong and looking forward to their marquee events on January 1, 2020. While a few details have yet to be determined, such as which top teams from the Pac-12 and Big Ten will be playing in “The Granddaddy of Them All”, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel has put together a quick guide of the essentials for anyone thinking of coming to the area for the event!

Tournament of Roses Parade

Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl GameWith up to 1 million people descending upon Pasadena on January 1 for these celebrated events, it is best to plan ahead. The 131st Rose Parade begins on New Year’s Day at 8:00 AM, but if you wish to attend, your morning will start much earlier! There are a variety of viewing options for the parade, but your best bet may be to purchase a grandstand ticket ahead of time to ensure you have a spot. If you wish to be adventurous, you may be able to find a prime viewing spot along the road… but that means celebrating your New Year’s Eve on the street with the hundreds to thousands of others who have a similar goal – getting that perfect spot to see the floats!

Traveling 5 ½ miles down Colorado Boulevard, the theme for 2020 is “The Power of Hope”, with all of the floats celebrating “the influence of optimism and hope”. Also, instead of one Grand Marshal this year, the parade will have three - Rita Moreno, Gina Torres, and Laurie Hernandez! This terrific trio was chosen by the Tournament for achieving excellence in their fields while always epitomizing respect and inspiring others to dream big!

Rose Bowl Game

Since 1947, the Rose Bowl Game has been a sellout attraction. Taking place at the lovingly deemed “America’s Stadium”, the Rose Bowl Stadium, two of the top teams from the Pac-12 and Big Tem will take to the field at 1:00 PM for the 106th edition of this legendary tradition. Because the final results of this college football season are still undecided, we cannot name the two powerhouse teams that will be taking the field. Yet the game is more than just who raises the Leishman Trophy in the end, as the main reason so many attend is being able to witness one of the oldest sporting traditions in America for themselves.

So, get ready for this historic celebration! Enjoy an exciting day at Pasadena’s Tournament of Roses Parade and Rose Bowl Game, then plan to come back and relax in style at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel. Take advantage of not only our upscale amenities and the comfort of our modernly-appointed accommodations but our convenient location, adjacent to the Hollywood Burbank Airport for those flying in for the event.

Gabriel Iglesias | December 27, 2019 (8:00 PM)

Six Flags Holiday in the ParkThe rare sight of flurries falling from the sky is not the only treat that Holiday in the Park brings. Now in its sixth year, more than 2 million lights and seven different themed areas will light up the park to get revelers in the spirit of the season. This also includes the park bringing back the fan-favorite “Taste of the Holidays” food festival for two weeks (from December 14 – 29) during the extended run. The hours of operation vary between three different durations, the longest being 10:30 AM to 9:00 PM on Saturdays and the week of the Christmas holiday.

This year, the Holiday in the Park themed areas will include:

Merry Lane – Twinkling lights that are synchronized to holiday music and 30-foot walk-through ornaments await, but the true pièce de résistance for many guests is roasting marshmallows over an open fire. (Sorry, but due to the warm LA weather, Jack Frost nipping at your nose is not included).

Santa’s Cottage – What holiday-themed event would be complete without the Man in the Red Suit? Along with Mrs. Claus and the elves, enjoy making crafts and visiting Santa at his home up until December 24!

Gleampunk District: A Steampunk Holiday Experience – The largest themed area in the park, you will be transported back to the 19th century with all of the sights and sounds of the Industrial Revolution, all illuminated by thousands of lights. The center of this area is the Gearworks Theater, whose façade will be streaming a video adventure showcasing the happenings inside of the Steampunk Candy and Toy Factory. Don’t forget to get your selfie in the one-of-a-kind steampunk sleigh!

Rockin’ Universe – This is where the DC UNIVERSE comes to life, featuring three light shows that are each synchronized to contemporary holiday music. Being one of the largest light shows along the entire West Coast, each five-minute event includes tens of thousands of lights, with each viewing just as captivating as the last.

With all of the illumination that abounds, to get the most out of all the Holiday in the Park festivities, guests are advised to stay later to see the light shows and displays in all of their glory! If you are coming from away or just wish to have a full night out on the town, book a room with us at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel! Our comfortable accommodations and upscale amenities are conveniently located just a short distance away, making us a perfect home-away-from-home for all of your Six Flags Magic Mountain adventures!

Celebrate the Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood in 2019

Enjoy some merry movie magic for the entire month of December when the fun turns toward the holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood.

There may be no place like home for the holidays, but Universal Studios Hollywood is making a case to serve as runner-up! Beginning on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28 and running daily through Sunday, December 29, this beloved Hollywood landmark decks its halls and CityWalk streets for the holiday season. During the Holidays at Universal Studios Hollywood, the park transforms many of its famous attractions to cater to the upcoming winter holidays. All of the holiday cheer and merry joy is included with the price of admission and gives guests a chance to see some of their favorite places at the park in a different light. Two of the most popular Christmas-fied attractions are returning again in 2019!

Christmas in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter™

Holidays at Universal Studios HollywoodAs soon as you begin your stroll through Hogsmeade™, and take in the festive décor, holiday food, and seasonal merchandise (that you may of course purchase to start checking off names on your gift lists), you’ll know that the most wonderful time of the year has come to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter! What screams winter weather more than hot Butterbeer? How about having a mug while viewing the amazing light show, The Magic of Christmas at Hogwarts™ Castle? The show is all-new this year, but its predecessors have never failed to get visitors in the spirit of the season. Tip: Don’t forget to check out the Frog Choir’s musical performances!

You would be a mean one if your visit to the park didn’t include a stop at Universal Plaza to say hello to The Grinch and his beloved canine companion, Max! He might grumble, but he’s always ready to make your selfies extra Grinchy. Along with many other residents from Whoville, these classic characters roam the area and make the Plaza feel very much like their fictitious town. At the center is The Grinchmas Tree, which is more than 55 feet in height and a sight to behold both day and night. Yet as soon as the sun sets, the nightly tree lighting brings not only music and illumination but a little bit of snow! Yes, snow… in Los Angeles!!

There are many more surprises in store as the park continues to put the finishing touches on this year’s celebration. If you are coming to the area to make some merry movie magic memories, the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport Hotel is a quick five-mile drive from Universal Studios Hollywood. Booking your stay with us ensures you will have a convenient and comfortable place to rest after a long day at the park! We hope to have the honor of celebrating a bit of the holiday season with you!
